Oriental Urban Development, a subsidiary of leading Oriental Weavers,  vows not to dismiss workers nor cut salaries  even in case economic hardships resulting from Coronavirus pandemic persist for a longer period of time, owner and board member   Mohmed Farid Khamis said.

With the aim of ensuring safety of its workers, the company introduced its own protective measures, going ahead of the government, Mohmed addressed workers in a whatsapp message.  “ I am confident that these measures were strong and sufficient enough to shield workers against the perils posed by the virus.”

While it allowed employees to work from home, the company was keen to reduce gatherings and proceed with sanitizing  and disinfecting offices and work sites, he added.

“ Regarding jobs that can’t be done  from home, all safety and hygiene measures inclusive of disinfecting sites and workers, have been taken. Also, a pamphlet providing information about the virus and means of protection has been distributed among workers.”

Moreover, Mohmed explained  that alcohol bottles alongside disinfectants have been handed out to all employees.

Collecting dues from clients was accomplished through agents hired by OUD in order to further ensure safety of both workers and clients.

“ All workers shall receive their salaries on time to make sure all their needs are met at this critical time.”

Mohmed asked employees never to panic, as the company “ will never discharge anyone and no salaries will be cut whatever happens and at any cost, We are one family and doing harm to any member of this family can never be tolerated.”

“ Even in case our company has zero revenues and cash, I will sell its assets or even my personal holdings to pay the salaries. And I quote what  my father always says: We are here to help the poor feed their siblings. And accumulating profits is the last thing we think of.”
