Minister of Transport inspects stations of the 4th phase of Cairo Metro Third Line-photo gallery
Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir inspected stations of the fourth stage of Cairo Metro Third Line, set to be inaugurated before the Muslim feast of Eid El Adha which falls two weeks from today.
In the company of officials of the National Authority for Tunnels, Wazir toured the stations of Adly Mansour, Hykestep, Qabaa, Omar Ibn El-Khattab, Hisham Barakat, and Nozha as well as the largest maintenance workshop for trains in MENA region and Africa spreading over an area of 65 feddans.
The workshop, known as Magsamha, has a gigantic space of 34,000sqm with 15 lanes, each can carry two trains and totaling 30 trains.
The minister stressed the importance of double checking on the safety systems at the stations which will be inaugurated soon.
For the first time in Cairo Metro history, Egyptian companies (Arab Contractors - Orascom) were the main contractors in this phase of the project which they carried out in cooperation with global firms, he added.
Also, Minister of Transportalluded to how Adly Mansour station could turn into a pivotal station with intersecting lines andconsisting of a wholesome transports complex and commercial investment center over an area of 15 feddans. Transport service may thus be interchanged among 5 means of transports which include a metro station of the Cairo Metro Third Line, a station of electric train passing through stations of Adly Mansour, the Administrative Capital and the Tenth of Ramadan, and a railway station linking Cairo with Suez. Also included is a super jet station and lastly a BRT station that is linked with Cairo International Airport.
On top of the existing trains that are already in operation, 32 air-conditioned trains have been bought for operation in Cairo Metro Third Line.
First and second trains included among this purchase have already been supplied, as the remaining trains are scheduled to arrive according to a pre-set timeframe.
