Carrefour’s fifty-third store opening in Alexandria to be followed by three other locations
Carrefour, operated in Egypt by Majid Al Futtaim, has opened the doors to its fifty-third location in the country with the arrival of a new supermarket for shoppers in Alexandria. The opening emphasises Carrefour’s commitment to supporting the growth and development of the Egyptian community while providing access to a great choice of quality products at affordable prices.
The new location spans over 900 square metres and is located in the Zaki Ragab neighbourhood of Alexandria. Further cementing its position at the centre of the community, Carrefour is also on track to open new outlets in Cairo, which are expected to welcome shoppers during the third quarter of the year.
The Cairo expansion includes a 500 square metre location set to be unveiled in Mivida — the brand’s second ever concept store. As part of the brand’s ambitious expansion plan, Carrefour will also launch a 1,200 square metre store in Al Azhar, and a 1,100 square meter location in Alexandria’s Wingit neighbourhood.
Jean Luc Graziato, Country Manager of Carrefour Egypt, at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said: “As our new Alexandria location shows, we are fully committed to helping the communities we serve grow. Our four new stores — which add up to an investment of EGP 37 million — emphasise our goal to be a pillar of the communities we live and work in. Crucially, these stores will boost the local economy by creating jobs for gifted and enterprising Egyptians. We look forward to welcoming customers to our stores and playing our part in the growth and development of the region."
In addition to boosting the local economy, Carrefour works hard to reduce its carbon footprint and safeguard the future of the communities it serves. To this end, the brand has developed a series of initiatives to increase its water efficiency, installing energy-saving LED lights, sensors, and timers on air-conditioning and lighting within its stores.
