The construction of a bridge in-front of Basilica church not true, MP El-Sallab
Parliamentarian Mohamed Mostafa El-Sallab invalidated the construction of a bridge that pass right in-front of Heliopolis' Basilica church, dubbing the news as a rumor.
Mostafa stated usinghis Facebook account that he spoke with officials and concerned bodies who "confirmed to me that no decisionhasbeen taken as regards the construction of a bridge there, and that soil sensing taking place in that area is routinely conducted in various districts across Cairo to upgrade the latter's infrastructure."
Any decision to build bridges in Heliopolis metropolis can't be taken without ensuring compliance with this district's unique standing.
On the other hand, head of House of Representative's Housing Committee MP Tarek Shoukry said in a televised interview that the area has already been developed one year ago and has no traffic congestion whatsoever, making the construction of the bridge pointless.
According to Article 2 of Building Code, the area is classified as a Type A Heritage Site, prohibiting any constructions in the public and open spaces of the area's streets and squares interfering with the visual sight, he continued.
Any decision in this regard should be based upon the balancing between the residents' real need for building a new bridge in this heritage site and dangers of harming the aesthetic view, he explained, concluding that he supports the viewpoint rejecting the construction of a bridge in-front of Basilica church.
