Egypt continues to support environmental and climate issues

Abdel Fattah El-Sisi، President of the Arab Republic of Egypt، stated that Egypt continues to pay attention to environmental and climate change issues، and permanent support for all solutions which contribute to preserving the environment، especially in light of the current climate challenges، which require action to reduce the negative effects of climate change.

The national road network saved $8 billion annually in consumed fuel

Egypt adopted، during the Climate Summit Conference "COP27" which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh، many pioneering initiatives and many agreements were concluded to preserve the environment.

Road network to save $8 billion annually

President El-Sisi confirmed that the state aimed to implement the national road network projects to save $8 billion annually، which is the value of the volume of fuel consumed while citizens wait at traffic lights as decreasing citizens' waiting times contributes to fuel savings and reducing harmful emissions.

Cleansing of all lakes، including Lake Manzala، which contained pollutants about 100 years ago

President El-Sisi indicated that Egypt also carried out the process of cleansing all lakes، including Lake Manzala، with an area of 250،000 acres، which contained pollutants about 100 years ago، to become now similar to the Mediterranean Sea after its cleansing.

Compensation fund

The state officially began to be concerned with the environment since the Paris conference and COP26 in Glasgow

President El-Sisi affirmed that the state officially began to pay attention to the field of the environment، since the Paris conference and in Glasgow (COP26)، as Egypt was keen to make the (COP27) conference in Sharm El-Sheikh، the summit of implementation، hoping that this conference would be well-equipped so as to come out of it with a real practical decision that obliges the major industrial countries to contribute to the compensation fund or bear part of the losses resulting from the countries which will implement environmental reform programs.

The road network decreased waiting times، saved energy and reduced emissions

Concerning the (COP28) conference scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates this year، President El-Sisi assured that there is permanent coordination with the government of UAE.

Energy

About LE 1.7 trillion were spent implementing projects in the electricity and gas sectors، strengthening efforts to generate green hydrogen as a source of clean energy

President El-Sisi pointed out that Egypt spent about LE1.7 trillion in implementing projects in the electricity and gas sectors and solving the problems that Egypt faced in these two sectors during the past years.

President El-Sisi said that Egypt was suffering from the electricity problem seven years ago، and if this problem had not been resolved، the country would have been lost، so solving this energy challenge was a priority because the Egyptian people could not bear the energy challenge for another period، and this was my appreciation as responsible leader for the people who put the responsibility on my shoulders.

Green hydrogen

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi directed to foster efforts to generate green hydrogen as a source of clean energy and to continue implementing national plans related to strengthening the role of renewable energy and maximizing its value in ordr to diversify the sources of energy supply on which the industrial، agricultural and urban development process in Egypt relies.

Egypt is implementing a number of major projects in the field of electricity production that depend on wind and solar energies، in cooperation and partnership with foreign expertise، within the framework of Egypt’s integrated and sustainable energy strategy، as Egypt aims to reach the produced and used renewable energy to 42% of the total electrical energy by 2035.

Green investments

Significant steps were taken towards achieving structural transformation in laws and regulations to promote green investments

President El-Sisi concluded that Egypt has taken concrete and significant steps towards achieving a structural transformation in laws، legislation and government work mechanisms، which contributes to promoting and enhancing green investments.

The green public investments، targeted in the investment plan for the fiscal year 2022/2023 sent to the House of Representatives and announced by the government، amounted to 40% of the total public investments، representing LE 410 billion that are directed to several sectors، while the state aims to increase the share of these investments in the state plan to 50% during the fiscal year 2024/2025.
