Lots of SMEs got into technology sector in Egypt, IF

Board member at Industries Federation’s Information Technology Chamber Eng. Ashraf Salah said the Egyptian state is witnessing wonderful success stories in the digitalization process, particularly in healthcare, computerization of healthcare services and online payments.

During the previous period, lots ofsmall and medium-sized enterprises started to get into technology areas, he added, noting in a statement delivered to Extra News Channel that the economy of any country relies by 70 percent on SMEs.

Lots of companies has been registered and established in particular areas, such as technological groups in the healthcare system and syndicates management system, as the state is keen to factor in digitalization and to set up numerous SMEs in fields of digital transformation and technology, he explained.

Digitalization is penetrating lots of fields in Egypt. First, a phased strategical plan was forged in order to reinforce cooperation between Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology on the one hand and the state’s institutions and bodies on the other and to create an integrated and secured digital system that can deliver top-notched services to all people.

Investments in early phases stood at EGP30bn

Back in 2019, the first phase for upgrading the nationwide telecommunications infrastructure saw the injection of up to EGP30bn investments, then EGP5.5bn investments spanning the second phase during the second half of 2020.

Additionally, up to 13,000 buildings constituting all governmental buildings nationwide have been networked with optical fibers in just 24 months at a cost of EGP6bn. Further still, data base duality has been handled by means of linking 75 governmental data bases with each other.

For instance, Port Said governorate launched 150 digital services, the first of their kind across the country. Also 75 governmental digital service has been activated on Egypt Digital Platform at investments of EGP3bn with the aim of computerizing the governmental services and making them available electronically, with the signing up of almost 2.2mln citizens.

Moreover, a national e-commerce strategy has been launched so as to turn Egypt into a leading country in the Middle East and North Africa region, augment the volume of e-commerce in the national economy, to assist in implementing fiscal inclusion, raising up the Egyptian exports and gaining access to new markets.
