Marakez Partners with Climate Activist Ali Abdo aiming to raise awareness around sustainability as its flagship project in the heart of the Delta - Mall of Tanta

Marakez, one of Egypt’s leading mixed-use developers, has hosted a seminar featuring climate adventurer Ali Abdo, who set on his “Ride to COP27” initiative and spoke about sustainability and climate change in the Delta’s first internationally modeled mall, MARAKEZ’s Mall of Tanta in El Gharbeya governorate.

Mall of Tanta welcomed Ali Abdo who gave his talk to a conscious audience including mall visitors, young volunteers, opinion leaders, government representatives, as well as MARAKEZ team members in view of the prep up for the Conference of the Parties (COP27) which Egypt is set to host in Sharm El Sheikh in November.

MARAKEZ was pleased to partner with Ali Abdo and support his positive climate initiative, that launched from their flagship project in West Cairo, Mall of Arabia. This comes as part of the company’s strategy to create smart and sustainable communities.

The leading mixed-use developer confirmed that they constantly seek to play a proactive role in serving the community in addition to building a resilient and sustainable economy which comes in line with their belief in the private sector’s role in supporting Egyptian state plans and its Vision 2030.

Sustainability is at the heart of MARAKEZ’s operations and vision, enhanced by their unwavering commitment to a set of ethics revolving around environmental conservation.

The private sector, civil society and individuals, all play a key role in overcoming any negative impacts associated with climate change and working towards a comprehensive and sustainable development. Coordination between the public and private sectors is indispensable as it would accelerate the pace of development; a result direly sought by Egypt at the present moment.

Adventurer and Climate Activist Ali Abdo praised the private sector’s role in this initiative, reaffirming the importance of corporate support for initiatives that raise awareness around climate change and promote seeing through the targets of comprehensive development to their end.

Ali Abdo’s *Ride to COP27* is the first of its kind globally, using electric motorbikes to serve environmental targets. The initiative promotes youth involvement in all efforts relevant to combating climate change, raising awareness around its impacts, and underscoring Egypt’s role as a host of the outstanding global event in Sharm El Sheikh. The remarkable trip sets off at Abu Simbel Temple in Aswan to reach Sharm El Sheikh over a 30-day duration, recording the longest trek on an electric motorbike all over the world which seeks to be imprinted as a Guinness World Record.

*The Ride to COP27* was launched in cooperation with the Sustainable Services Activity financed by USAID, and Our Earth’s Climate for Sustainable Development Foundation (EC4SDF), Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Marakez, “Al-Haditha” Company for Sustainable Transport, “Be an Ambassador” initiative affiliated with Planning and Sustainable Development Institute, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, and a number of other partners.
