After the Grand Egyptian Museum obtained the certificate of accreditation as a Green Building
The Grand Egyptian Museum obtain the certificate of accreditation as Egypt’s first green construction-certified museum.
What are the criteria for evaluating green and sustainable buildings in Egypt?
The GEM won the Green Building Award (GBA) from National Centre for Housing and Building Research, according to the Green Pyramid Rating System (GPRS).
This is based on a strategy to make the Grand Egyptian Museum Egypt’s first eco-friendly museum. Green buildings help reduce energy consumption by 24-50% reduce carbon emissions by 33-39%, reduce water consumption by up to 40%, and reduce solid waste by up to 70%.
Therefore, the Egyptian Green Pyramid Rating System (GPRS) was formulated in 2010 by the Egyptian Green Building Council (EGBC) with the participation of the Housing and Building National Research center (HBRC). The first version of this system was released in April 2011.
The GPRS is a system tailored to assessing green and sustainable buildings in Egypt, so it is a local environmental assessment.
The assessment of the building in this system is being conducted in two stages:
Design stage
- Post-construction phase; provided that it is subject to assessment during the implementation phase of the design. The Green Pyramid Rating System fields:
1- Sustainable Sites.
2- Energy Efficiency.
3- Water Efficiency.
4- Materials and Resources.
5- Indoor Environmental Quality.
5- Management.
7- Innovation and Added Value.
