Civil society organizations launches its regional initiative "Green NGOs"
Within the framework of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP27 which is currently being held in Sharm El-Sheikh from within the Blue Zone – "Misr El-Kheir" Foundation announced on the sidelines of the Civil Society Day the launch of its regional initiative "towards green NGOs", which will be implemented under the campaign umbrella the Regional sustainable climate in cooperation and care for the campaign partners from international and local authorities.
From her side Huda Bakr Executive Director of the Arab Network for NGOs, indicated that the Arab Network is one of the partners in the regional campaign "Sustainable Climate" and that the campaign has achieved many achievements, including: The launch of the document "The Charter of Arab Climate Action for NGOs" and that this initiative It comes as a continuation of these efforts and support of NGOs in adhering to the rules and principles of the "Climate Action agreement".
A continuation of the regional campaign
Dr. Mohamed Rifai, CEO of the "Misr Al -Khair" Foundation, explained that the initiative comes as a belief that civil work organizations are one of the three sides of the development process next to the private and governmental sector and that it has an important role in managing the development process and achieving the sustainable development goals and that the initiative comes as a continuation of the regional campaign. " Sustainable climate.
Mohamed Mamdouh, Head of the Associations Development Sector in “Masr El Kheir” explained that the "Green NGOs" initiative consists of several activities, foremost of which is the issuance of a local quality specification certificate for the accreditation of green NGOs, according to a set of criteria and indicators, where NGOs apply for accreditation according to that specification- The second is working to provide technical, institutional and programmatic support to assist NGOs to shift from traditional systems of management and practice to work systems consistent with sustainability and the transition to green, and thirdly to qualify regional cadres of civil work organizations that adopt green development practices and fourthly to support green community initiatives for NGOs, pointing to The initiative, in its first phase during the year 2023, aims to reach 3000 civil organizations at the regional level.
Dr. Tarek Tamraz, a member of the Board of Directors of the Center of Excellence for Climate Change and Sustainable Development at the National Research Center indicated that the center will provide all forms of technical support for the success of this initiative by providing cadres and building educational curriculum.
Dr. Hussein Abaza, the international expert in the green economy and sustainable development, confirmed that the “Misr Al -Khair” Foundation has tools and capabilities and in cooperation with the partners of the 'sustainable climate' campaign, which qualifies it for the success of that initiative and we expect it to contribute to the transformation of civil society to green practices.
It is worth mentioning that in light of the "sustainable climate" campaign a statement was issued to the world leaders meeting in Sharm El-Sheikh bearing the aspirations, hopes and vision of civil society on the issue of climate.
