During the COP27 Climate Change Conference, "Schneider Electric" executed many agreements with government authorities.
Moreover, joint ventures were announced with authorities, including the Ministry of Electricity and the South Sinai Governorate.
Furthermore, deals have been concluded with top Egyptian companies to provide various technology solutions in line with sustainability and environmental conservation directions.
Sebastian Reyes, President of Schneider Electric Company for North East Africa and the Arab Levant, said that over 35 years, the period of the Company's work in the Egyptian market, Schneider Electric has invested more than EUR 300 million to date. The Company is intended to expand the investment volume in the next stage within the framework of the new ongoing projects.
"The Company is currently cooperating with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy in many projects, including completing the first phase of developing and digitizing the electricity distribution network." He said.
"The project is intended to enhance the efficiency of energy consumption and the speed of addressing emergency technical problems. It also aims to reduce the time of malfunctions and wastage in the network, which contributes to enhancing sustainability through the distribution network", he indicated.
Green Energy
He also said that the Company provides diverse clean and green energy production solutions. "Schneider Electric is intended to be the digital strategic partner for companies and entities to bring the concepts of sustainability and efficiency in energy consumption to life."
During the COP27 Conference, "Schneider Electric" declared the conclusion of many partnership agreements with major developers of the real estate sector in the Egyptian market.
Sebastian Reyes said that the Company provides developers with services to help digitize their businesses and projects to foster efficiency in energy consumption, which contributes to supporting sustainability in their projects and reducing the projects' carbon impact.
"The Company believes in the significance of implementing energy conservation and sustainability standards.
The Company is also implementing these technologies at its headquarters. For example, it has developed its headquarters in New Cairo, and technology solutions were applied that have already contributed to reducing the cost of electricity consumption and the carbon by 50%", he continued.
He talked about green hydrogen, saying, "It is a new source of energy that achieves sustainability. Hydrogen has many types, such as blue, pink, and gray hydrogen. However, green hydrogen has a limited impact on the environment.
Schneider Electric plays a significant role in this regard by providing technology solutions to conserve electricity needed as an energy source to produce green hydrogen to preserve energy rates used to make it as sustainable as possible.
Climate Change Conference
Egypt's COP27 Climate Change Conference hosting is a good chance for Egypt and Africa. The interest in the Conference was previously focused only on governments and civil society. Still, Sebastian Reyes said that the private sector strongly demonstrated itself in the current and past sessions and showed interest in participating in the activities.
Many companies are participating in the Conference, which reflects the ability to achieve rapid transformation towards sustainability, as companies are an essential part of the system.
Egyptian Market
Sebastian Reyes said that the Company exists in 8 countries in Northeast Africa and the Levant; Egypt is the largest market regarding business volume. The region represents a large part of the world market, as Schneider Electric operates in many areas worldwide, including primarily Latin America, the Middle East, India, East Asia, Japan, and Africa.
Concerning the presence in the New Administrative Capital, he said that through its technology solutions, the Company is keen to contribute to achieving the objectives of the Capital as a smart, sustainable city.
Regarding the Company's social role, he said that in 2019, "Schneider Electric" concluded a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, under which Schneider Electric undertakes to annually launch at least one community responsibility initiative, which has already been implemented.
"Four community responsibility projects have been implemented since 2019. The latest project was in Esna and Dandara in Luxor and Qena, where Schneider Electric's technology solutions provided innovative and easy-to-use models of solar-powered greenhouses. It enables the harvest to be annually harvested two or three times instead of once by controlling the temperature of the greenhouses."
He added that these projects provided 200 new job opportunities and the food requirements of more than a thousand families.
"The project was handed over to an NGO to ensure the continuity of the project.
Also, in cooperation with the NGO, we follow up on the project and examine its development opportunities to support more people and maximize the impact.
