Many international organizations announced global food insecurity because of high inflation

Many international organizations such as Food and Agriculture Organization، Intrnational Monetery Fund، World Bank، World Food Prohram and Wrld Trade Organizatin، anounced that rising food price inflation high around the world since last year has led to Global Food Security and Nutrition Crisis which need to be confronted by taking immediate procedures including providing food، immediate support to the vulnerable peoples، investing in agriculture، boosting production.


Up to 205 million people expected to face acute food insecurity because of inflation


The international organizations، like FAO indicated that the Global Report on Food Crisis confirmed last year that up to 205 million people are expected to face acute food insecurity and to be in need of urgent assistance in 45 countries at least.


The international organizations، such as the World Bank announced in May 2022 a comprehensive، global response to the food security crisis، by making up to $30 billion available over a period of 15 months، including $12 billion in new projects across 47 countries، mostly in Africa، which is one of the hardest hit regions by the food crisis.


The inflation caused Global Food Insecurity

The international organizations including the FAO، IMF، World Bank Group، WFP، and WTO issued a Statement on the Global Food Security and Nutrition Crisis، noting that inflation in almost all low-income and middle-income countries has been so high during last year uptil now.

These international organizations، especially the FAO، stated that domestic food price inflation remains high above 5% with many experiencing double-digit inflation in about 83.3% of low-income countries، 90.5% of lower-middle-income countries، and 91% of upper-middle-income countrie.


The international organizations: share of high-income countries with high food price inflation 85.7%


The international organizations، including the FAO، confirmed that the share of high-income countries with high food price inflation has risen to 85.7% since 2022 and the countries affected most are in Africa، North America، Latin America، South Asia، Central Asia، and Europe.


The international organizations cooperated in last May with the Group of seven، G7، with aim of taking an immediate and concerted response to the global hunger crisis through providing timely information for global and local decision-makers to help improve coordination of the policy and financial response to alleviate the food crisis especially in Africa.


Russia’s invasion of Ukraine led to high inflation


The FAO said that agricultural and cereal prices increased last year so high such as maize and wheat prices are 31% and 12% higher، respectively، than in January 2021، due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.


The Russia war has led to surging trade-related policies imposed by countries that the global food crisis has been partially made worse by the growing number of food trade restrictions put in place by countries with a goal of increasing domestic supply and reducing prices، hat as of December 2022، 27 countries have implemented 23 food export bans، and 12 export-limiting measures.
