Elsewedy Industrial Development and GIZ Egypt Sign a Cooperation Agreement

Elsewedy Industrial Development, the leading integrated industrial and logistics developer in Egypt and Africa, signed a cooperation agreement with “GIZ” Egypt on behalf of the German Development Cooperation and under the auspices of the Industrial Development Authority (IDA).

The agreement aims to provide comprehensive technical support to a pilot program in five industrial areas in Egypt as they adopt the Sustainable Industrial Areas (SIA) concept, which focuses on the three pillars of sustainability - environmental, economic and social aspects - in a balanced manner and developing tailored transformation strategies and roadmaps towards sustainability.

The agreement is part of the extensive effort implemented by the Egyptian German Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (PSME) project to support industrial areas in Egypt.

The official signing ceremony was held under the auspices of the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) on behalf of the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry and in cooperation with the Industrial Development Division on behalf of the Real Estate Development Chamber of the Federation of Egyptian Industries.

The ceremony was attended by Major General Eng. Mohamed Al Zalaat, Chairman of the Industrial Development Authority, Eng. Bassel Shoriah, Vice Chairman, and Head of the Industrial Development Division, Mr. Jonas Naguib, Cluster Coordinator of the Private Sector Development Cluster at GIZ, and Eng. Mohamed El Kammah, CEO of Elsewedy Industrial Development, in addition to industrial developers who signed the agreement.

Through this initiative, Elsewedy Industrial Development will provide comprehensive technical support to five pilot industrial areas in Egypt as they adopt the Sustainable Industrial Areas (SIA) concept.

The initiative will also aim to develop tailored transformation strategies and roadmaps to strike the required balance between administrative and economic issues, resource and energy efficiency, environmental protection and social compatibility according to the best global practices and as per the needs of the Egyptian industrial sector.

The pilot areas include two public industrial areas owned and operated by IDA in Qena and Sohag, and three private industrial areas owned and operated by the three partner developers in the cities of 6th of October and the 10th of Ramadan.

Major General Eng. Mohamed Al Zalaat, Chairman of the Industrial Development Authority, highlighted the role of Egyptian industries as a key driver of the sustainable economic development.

He also praised the efforts of the Egyptian government in developing industrial areas to attract more investments to the sector, while creating new jobs throughout Egypt. Al Zalaat also urged the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving the goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Mr. Jonas Naguib, Cluster Coordinator of the Private Sector Development Cluster at GIZ, added that the agreement aligns with the Egyptian-German cooperation objectives to upgrade the investment ecosystem in Egypt and support Egyptian industries, while enhancing partnerships with private sector to achieve sustainable

development. He concluded that GIZ welcomes the cooperation with all stakeholders who are have interest in developing Egyptian industry.

Commenting on the agreement, Eng. Mohamed El Kammah, CEO of Elsewedy Industrial Development, praised the efforts of the Industrial Development Authority as a key partner for the company and GIZ.
