"El Gouna" hosts the world’s leading obstacle course challenge "Tough Mudder"
It is organized by "The TriFactory"
Under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports
El Gouna, one of the fully integrated towns by Orascom Development situated in the Red Sea, in collaboration with The TriFactory is excited to announce hosting the world’s most famous obstacle course challenge, Tough Mudder, at El Gouna on the 6th of May. The international sports event is organized in more than 30 countries around the world and will be back in Egypt and for the first time in the Red Sea under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Obstacle course races and challenges (also known as OCRs) have been gaining popularity internationally over the past decade, encouraging amateur athletes of all ages and abilities to test their mental and physical strength in a fun and exciting atmosphere. Some OCRs are competitive, while others are purely for the enjoyment of participants, choosing to promote a spirit of camaraderie and achievement. Tough Mudder falls into the latter category, and since its introduction in Egypt in 2019, the event has witnessed thousands of participants take part and successfully complete the challenge. In addition to its classic 5K distance, the event will also include Mini Mudder, a fun challenge for kids ages 8-13 who enjoy pushing their limits and getting muddy!
“Tough Mudder is a global sports brand that we’ve been organizing in Egypt for the past four years with great results. We’ve worked hard to take this event outside of Cairo and we’ve found the perfect partner in El Gouna, the home of our annual El Gouna Half Marathon and an amazing seaside destination that’s fun for the entire family,” says Ayman Hakky, Founder & CEO of The TriFactory. “We’re excited to organize the event on May 6th and to hopefully turn it into another annual event on El Gouna’s calendar.”
Tough Mudder Egypt is organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth & Sports, who have steadfastly supported the event since its introduction in Egypt. H.E. Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth & Sports, has personally attended two editions of the event (in 2020 and 2021). As well as the support of the Ministry, the event is supported by Shedwan, El Gouna’s latest real estate development, and welcomes a range of other distinguished sponsors, both local and international, who help grow the event’s profile and engage with participants on-ground.
Commenting on the event, Mohamed Ashour, El Gouna Head of Commercial and Business Development, “El Gouna is a trendsetter and a pioneer in creating a lively environment for their residents; thus, we were keen to be hosting Tough Mudder for the first time in the Red Sea. This step comes in line with Orascom Development's strategy to promote tourism through diverse sports activities and encouraging athletes and residents of El Gouna of all ages to enjoy a fun and inspiring experience which reinforces our unrelenting vision in creating fully-integrated vibrant towns. Tough Mudder at El Gouna will also include “Mini Mudder” which is a fun challenge for kids ages 8-13 to bring the families together in a new and spirited experience.”
He added, “El Gouna has all that it takes, in terms of infrastructure, facilities and space to be a hub for sports and other activities, hosting international sports events throughout the year. I believe the town provides an ideal destination for people to pursue a lifestyle best suited to their needs and aspirations, whether it’s a life of tranquility, adventure, luxury, sports activities or a unique blend of all.”
Tough Mudder El Gouna takes place on Friday, May 6th in the heart of El Gouna, Red Sea. Select from the 5K distance (ages 13+) or Mini Mudder (ages 8-12).
